Collaboration between the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries of the University General Hospital of Patras and the Advocacy Office for Multiple Sclerosis

On Wednesday, September 23, 2015, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries at the University General Hospital of Patras and the Advocacy Office for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) within the framework of the “Advocacy for Multiple Sclerosis” program and the Non-Profit Organization for the Support and Care of the Elderly & People with Disabilities “FRODIZO” in cooperation with the Greek Association for the Management of Multiple Sclerosis Western Greece (GAMMS-WG).

Representing the Clinic for Rehabilitation was Professor of Orthopedics and Director of the Rehabilitation Clinic, Dr. Elias X. Panagiotopoulos, while the Advocacy Office was represented by Ms. Marianna Papanikolaou, a psychologist and a member of the office.

The memorandum includes the referral for psychosocial support of patients with Multiple Sclerosis after their discharge from the Rehabilitation Clinic. It also involves collaboration for awareness and public sensitization initiatives regarding Multiple Sclerosis.

The project is funded within the framework of the “We Are All Citizens” program, aimed at increasing the provision of social welfare services to vulnerable social groups in Greece. This program is part of the overall Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) Grants for Greece. The Fund Operator of the program is the Bodossaki Foundation.

The goal of the program is to empower civil society in our country and strengthen social justice, democracy, and sustainable development.

Center for the Rehabilitation of Spinal Cord Injuries in Hamburg: Berufsgenossenschaftliches Unfallkrankenhaus Hamburg

  • Transfer of therapists from Patras to Hamburg and from Hamburg to Patras for the exchange of experience in the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries.
  • Presentations by a German nurse.

ATEI Western Greece, Department of Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Nursing

  • Practical training of students at the ATEI Western Greece, Department of Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Nursing.
  • Design and implementation of research protocols.
“The other aspect” is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the social reintegration of individuals with spinal cord injuries and their independence in using wheelchairs.
